The Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative couldn’t function without our experienced staff, enthusiastic Véloteers, and dedicated board of directors! To join us, please RSVP for events on our Meetup page.
Vélocity Board of Directors

John Patterson, Vélocity Co-Founder
Along with Christian Myers, John Patterson co-founded Vélocity. In his other life, John was a UN staff member in New York through 2008, and continues as a consultant supporting UN agencies and non-profits engaged in international development. In 2014, John moved to California but continues to assist the Vélocity Co-op as a Board member, and spends time riding his Vélocity shop-nurtured 1987 Bianchi Brava along the streets and beaches of L.A.

Laura Berol, Chairperson
Laura Berol started learning bicycle repair at Community Bikes in Charlottesville in 2004. That makes her the slowest bike-repair-learner ever, since she took 19 years off to raise kids before showing up at Vélocity in 2023. She’s so glad she did! Vélocity spreads the thrill of traveling under your own steam and fixing your own bike when it breaks. And more than anything, Vélocity brings together amazing people.

Marty DeVine, Board Member
Marty DeVine joined the Board in 2015 because she is passionate about safe cycling and especially the importance of wearing a helmet. In addition, she believes that having a reliable bike can change lives as a result of the fitness benefits cycling offers and the freedom cycling provides to go almost anywhere at no cost. Marty chairs the Vélocity bike scholarship venture, which helps financially challenged individuals obtain a bike, lock, light and helmet and learn how to perform basic maintenance on their bike. She is also involved in several other Alexandria and Washington, DC nonprofits, but Marty particularly enjoys the Vélocity Co-op’s generosity, can-do attitude, infectious enthusiasm, diligence and compassion for enhancing the local bicycling community.

Hanna Do, Treasurer
Hanna Do joined Vélocity as Treasurer in 2025. She believes in Vélocity’s mission to promote biking as a healthy and accessible way of life for everyone. Hanna enjoys spending time in nature and riding through local parks and quiet trails whenever she can. With a background in accounting and financial leadership, Hanna helps ensure Vélocity’s finances stay organized, transparent, and aligned with its community goals. In her professional life, she supports organizations in building strong financial foundations that allow them to grow with confidence.

Andy Fisher, Secretary
Andy Fisher has volunteered with Vélocity since 2023. “I was a bike commuter. Now I’m a bike enthusiast,” he says. “I enjoy getting people on refurbished bicycles. It’s a great way to re-CYCLE and get bikes to kids and adults who need them. Velocity is a great place to volunteer, serve the community, and learn more about bikes.” Andy is retired from the U.S. Senate staff and the nonprofit sector. He served on the Board of Governors of the National Press Club where he still volunteers, and was the founding executive director of the National Forest Foundation.

John McClanahan, Board Member
John McClanahan is a long-time bike nut. He raced BMX as a (younger) kid and for more than 23 years now has biked to work from Alexandria to DC during all seasons. He first became familiar with Vélocity through Christian, Vélocity co-founder and neighbor, who has shared ideas and guidance for a number of John’s custom bike builds. John has served on the Vélocity board since 2023, focusing on property management and financial matters.

Elizabeth Senecal, Board Member
As the sole owner/operator of SHE’S A HANDYMAN®️, Elizabeth Senecal loves repairing things and happily shifted into gear volunteering regularly with Vélocity as of July 2025. She values the community engagement aspect of Vélocity – teaching people how to repair bikes, helping customers find the parts they are looking for, and directing them to properly sized and affordable bikes to buy! She loves cycling and participates annually in an 80-mile MS Ride to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. When she’s not repairing or riding a bike, she can be found playing her WWI tenor sax outside, hiking trails, or tuning and repairing pianos.

Steve Walz, Board Member
Steve Walz has been biking since hauling newspapers in the front basket of his balloon tire Schwinn Tornado as a youth. He learned basic maintenance and repair during his college years from the owner of a one-person shop, Fuji Cycles of Worcester. Since then, Steve has seen the strength of community and came to volunteer at Vélocity to give back and both learn from, and spend time with, fellow bike people. When the Véloteer urge calls you, Steve looks forward to meeting you and seeing you around the Vélocity shops and warehouse!
Vélocity Staff

Christian Myers, Vélocity Co-Founder & Shop Manager
One of the Vélocity founding fathers, Christian Myers serves as the manager of Vélocity’s Bike Shop in Del Ray. Other than bicycles, Christian is an expert in tattoos, muscle cars, AC/DC, fishing, and telling funny jokes. When he’s not at the shop or spending time with his family at home, he can often be found at Nationals Park catching a game.

Mike Pattisall, Business Manager
Mike Pattisall is one of the original Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative Véloteers. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2012 and served as the Board Chairman from 2014 to 2016. Mike loves collecting bikes and is well known for leaving silly stuff around the warehouse to liven it up.

Pete Peters, Mechanic
Pete Peters began training as a bicycle mechanic at Vélocity’s Arlington location in 2025, after over two decades in the military. Gym restrictions during COVID gave him a reason to get out his old mountain bike and he rediscovered a passion for riding. He enjoys spending time outside, rooting for animals, and restoring antique tools.
Véloteers

Kaitlin Bell
Kaitlin Bell began volunteering with Vélocity in 2025 after a great experience purchasing a bike at the Arlington shop. With a professional background in nonprofit communications, Kaitlin helps manage Vélocity’s social media profiles and coordinates with other Véloteers and staff to promote warehouse and shop sales, fundraising campaigns, and more! She enjoys biking along the many trails in the area, often with her Australian Shepherd, Maverick, in tow.

Tyler Brin
Tyler Brin started volunteering with Velocity shortly after moving to the area in 2024. He enjoys tinkering with all things mechanical and especially loves being able to bring neglected bicycles back to life. When not working on bikes, you may find him cruising on the Mt Vernon Trail or exploring some of the local mountain bike trails.

Joe Davison
Joe Davison has been a Vélocity Coop Véloteer since 2015. Joe is recognized as one of Vélocity’s most hardcore cyclists, commuting from his place in Northeast DC to Falls Church Skyline regularly in all weather — ranging from hot and muggy to snow and wind. Joe is also well known for his bike tech and gadgets, his love of catching live music with his wife, and traveling abroad several times a year.

Brooke Feichtl
Brooke Feichtl is new to biking as an adult and is happy to have found a workout that doesn’t feel like a workout. She is also glad to have found a warm community in Vélocity, where she helps with the grant program. When not on a bike, Brooke edits winning academic grant applications, research and literature. She also enjoys spending as much time as possible reading and being outside.

Shaun Melendy
Shaun Melendy is an accomplished and certified Systems Administrator with over 15 years of experience, specializing in the design and deployment of Linux environments. His employment background includes the University of Mary Washington, and Hewlett Packard/EDS, where he supported a wide range of operating systems, including RHEL, Solaris, HP-UX, Ubuntu, SUSE, and Windows Server. Shaun volunteers as a Web developer for Vélocity, using WordPress and Linux Apache MySQL databases. He also provides Linux expert guidance and support through KindWorks and is one of the original founders of fredtrails.org.

David Moss
David Moss, who took many of the photos on this website, is a DC-area photographer who does pro bono photography for numerous non-profit organizations. He loves doing street photography and finding the unexpected in seemingly ordinary moments. His work has been featured in various exhibitions and publications. You can enjoy many of his photos on his website at https://www.davidmossphoto.com. David occasionally writes humorous essays, children’s stories, and poems — two of which were surprisingly (to him) featured as posters on Arlington Rapid Transit buses. Many decades ago, at a gas station in Flatbush, Brooklyn, David accidentally over-inflated the tires on his and his wife’s bikes, and three of the tubes exploded — a dubious achievement he doubts any other Véloteer will ever equal.

Sepideh Rezvani
Sepi Rezvani is new to DC and she loves to get involved with the community. She finds volunteer-run co-ops a fantastic way to spend her time outside of work and to learn a few new skills. She first became interested in bike repair in 2015 back in Illinois when she started building her own bike at a local bike co-op. Her other hobbies include gardening, math and playing music!
Sepi is so glad she found out about Vélocity immediately after moving to DC in January 2025. It is full of wonderful people with diverse backgrounds who always have something new to teach you.
