Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative works with many governmental and nonprofit organizations to advance our mission of building a more equitable, sustainable, and healthy society through cycling.

Bicycle Donors

The Alexandria Police Department and the U.S. Park Police donate abandoned bicycles for Vélocity to refurbish.

Partners in Reaching People in Need

Vélocity gives free bicycles to those who need transportation through Alexandria DCHS, Carpenter’s Shelter, Christ House, Community Lodgings, Dar Al-Hijrah Refugee Services, and Friends of Guest House.

The Fund for Alexandria’s Child and Immanuel Church-on-the-Hill help Vélocity get free bicycles to children of low-income families at the winter holidays.

Partners in Youth Cycling

Vélocity provides free bicycle safety checks at youth cycling events organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) and the Woman’s Club of Arlington.

Vélocity repairs bicycles for free for the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club.

Vélocity provides free bikes for some Alexandria City Public Schools students learning to ride and repairs bicycles for a fee for the Move2Learn and Bicycling in the Schools programs, which donate their discarded bikes to Vélocity.

Partners in Social Rides

Vélocity provides free bicycle repair support to the D.C. Tweed Ride organized by Dandies and Quaintrelles and the Lymphoma Research Ride held in Maryland by the Lymphoma Research Foundation DC Chapter.

Partners in Connecting with the Community

Arlington Transportation Partners helps Vélocity offer bike safety clinics at housing complexes for a fee.

The GO Alex program gives Vélocity free bike route maps and other information about cycling in Alexandria to distribute.

Volunteer Alexandria connects Vélocity to amazing volunteers.

Bicycle Trash turns Vélocity’s discarded inner tubes into ingenious handmade goods.
